After leaving Lisbon, we headed south to the Algarve. From Tavira to Sagres and everywhere in between, this was a sun-drenched, salty, barefoot heaven.
Where: Algarve, Portugal
When: September 2016
Stayed: Bela Vista
Our first stop was Tavira, where we wandered the seaside streets and enjoyed a lazy lunch by the water. After Tavira, we stopped at Benagil beach, to take a boat trip to the caves. Everyone we asked had said there was no need to buy tickets beforehand, but the boats were booked up for the entire day, so I would definitely recommend purchasing in advance. We will try again next time! But even if you do not see the caves, Benagil beach is a beautiful, azure dream, with stunning rocks to climb on either side.
We based out of Portimão, a bustling beach town with a very laid back feel. Our hotel was magnificent in every way, from the tiniest details to the giant pool, and I can’t imagine a better spot on the beach! We swam from sunrise to sunset, and would wrap ourselves up in the plushest robes for room service supper each night. Relaxing to the max.
One day, we visited Sagres and Lagos. Sagres is at the western tip of the Algarve, and we spent a very windy morning climbing the cliffs and visiting the Cabo de São Vincente lighthouse. Lagos was definitely a favorite spot, and I would spend a few nights there on our next trip for sure. We took a boat trip via Bom Dia, and it was so much fun! Mojitos, grottos and clear blue waters to jump right into.
Until next time, Portugal!
