Monsanto is a hilltop town constructed in, on and around giant boulders – the architecture is truly incredible! Voted “the most Portuguese village in Portugal,” Emily and I were so excited to spend the morning exploring with Portugal Premium Tours.
Where: Monsanto, Portugal
When: September 2016
We stopped at a cafe for pão doce (sweet bread) and coffee, and then wandered the maze of streets. We passed giant pigs, tiny doors and hardly any other tourists. At one point we stumbled upon the sweetest store, selling craft beer, cheeses and other picnic items. We bought plastic cups of fresh watermelon juice, and sipped them above the town, just taking in the windy sights.
